History & Culture
West Wales is steeped in fascinating Celtic history & culture. From Stone Age settlements, through cromlechs, to the birthplace of Henry Tewdwr (Tudor) who later defeated Richard III at the Battle of Bosworth Field to become the first monarch of the Tudor dynasty - it all happened around us here!

At Greenhills Country Hotel, Pentre Ifanwe specialise in such short-break holidays for you to explore our heritage, especially if you are coming here in a group - although a 'group' of 2 or 4 people is also good with us! We will be pleased to welcome groups up to 50 people who can enjoy both the great places to visit and our excellent bed & breakfast accommodation, with or without dinner. You can also relax in our swimming pool, sauna or solarium - or enjoy a drink in our comfortable bar - after an exhilarating day out and about around the county.

From early history, the Celts St. Davidswere known as fearsome warriors - we are far more welcoming now! - and Vikings raided our coasts. That's why St David's Cathedral was built in a hollow, so that the Vikings would pass by without seeing it! Merlin and his fellow druids ruled across the land and examples of Standing Stones still mark their passing.

The Normans built many castles, Pembrokepredominantly along what is called The Landsker Line, to rule the native Welsh tribes. These castles are still available for you to visit and we are situated practically in their midst. They include Pembroke, Roch, Manorbier, Llawhaden, Narberth, Haverfordwest - the list goes on. This imaginary line that these castles take delineates the South Pembrokeshire, predominantly English speaking people (the 'Little England beyond Wales'!), from the more northern Pembrokeshire people whose language is predominantly the native Welsh - and this change can be within 5 miles!

Add to the castles, the walled historic Tenbytown of Tenby, which is only 3½ miles from us, and the other stately homes such as Picton and Carew, and you will find the wealth of, sometimes hidden, heritage that makes this part of Britain so interesting, yet we have taken care not to 'develop' these sites - you will find them remarkably 'authentic'.

We will be pleased to provide you with packed lunches (by arrangement) and transfers for groups (by arrangement).

Our booking process is simple and secure. Use the above search box to select your dates. The site will return real-time availability with prices for our rooms. Your card transaction is security protected by Verisign, which means the transaction is encrypted and authenticated.
